cleansing meditation in onsen
In Japanese culture, bathing is more than just cleansing your body. It's also a meditative mind cleansing ritual.
The experience of relaxing in natural hot springs or Onsen, allowed time, surrounding environment and mineral healing properties to leave one feeling truly nourished in mind and body.
Japanese bathing culture dates back to the 6th century with the introduction of Buddhist purification rituals.
Believed to cleanse the spirit these rituals were undertaken outdoors in a hot spring, or Onsen, formed from volcanic activity.
Onsen water must be warm, at least 24deg celsius and contain certain levels of minerals which offer special healing properties.

RELAX AND UNWIND
The Japanese tradition of bathing is not a hurried affair, instead the intention is to enjoy taking time for oneself.
Today, Japanese bath houses usually include a large, deep bath or known as an Ofuro.
For a true Japanese bathing experience, it’s traditional to cleanse your body to scrub away the stress and worries of the day, before slowly immersing oneself into warm mineral-rich water.
After soaking for a while, it’s time for another rinse before relaxing into the final and longest meditative soak.
